The Valleys Trail is a circular route from Robledillo to Descargamaría and back. The first section towards Descargamaría follows the Árrago valley and forms part of the GR-10 walking trail while the return leg takes the Valrubio path through the valley of Arroyo de la Vega.
It passes through a variety of natural environments: from cultivated land with grapevines, olive trees and vegetable gardens; through riverside forest beside chestnut woods and stands of oak trees; and scrubland and pine trees which cover the higher slopes of the mountains.
The trail starts just past the Ermita del Humilladero on a paved track which climbs gently between stone walls enclosing vineyards and olive groves. Behind us, there are beautiful panoramic views of the village until we get close to the Ermita de San Miguel on its small hill.
After passing the chapel, we come to a natural viewpoint with the high mountain peaks and narrow valleys in front of us. Suddenly the track descends steeply, zigzagging down towards the Garganta stream, which we cross to head south following the direction of the valley downstream. We soon reach the end of the concrete and continue on a dirt track.
The path descends gently between oak and chestnut trees and vegetable gardens, leaving behind superb views of Robledillo, the mountains and the Árrago valley. Little by little, the surroundings change to scrubland and pine trees as we approach Descargamaría on a paved track which heads down to the houses next to the natural swimming pool.
Once we reach Descargamaría's natural pool, it is a good time to take a short break before starting the path back to Robledillo. We take the road and, after a few metres, turn right onto a paved track which climbs upwards until we reach the top of the valley of the Vega stream, from where we are treated to a beautiful view of the valley.
The path climbs rapidly, with scrubland and pine trees on the left and farmland on the right, surrounded by small vineyards in the less steep areas and olive groves mixed with stands of oak, chestnut and cork oak trees. Behind us, there are beautiful views of the Árrago and Vega valleys with their many shades of green.
In this area of vineyards and the occasional olive grove we discover Robledillo's best kept secret - the grapevines used to produce its famous wines. There are small plots of land, knitted together in a patchwork which covers the whole hillside. With the valley and mountains in the background, the scenery is truly breathtaking.
The ascent finishes after a few bends where, surrounded by farmland, the trail descends gently towards Robledillo, which can be seen in the distance, huddled on the hillside. We pass through a shady area of chestnut trees interspersed with terraces of grapevines and olive trees until, close to the village, the trail descends steeply and arrives at the village opposite CalleBarrero.
